Pics: Easter Sunday & G-Live

Easter Sunday (4/12/09) was an amazing time of remembering and celebrating what Jesus had done on the cross for us. We had an awesome praise time, monologue by Josh, message, and a special time of mini reflections (one of which given by our very own Tim), and some more awesome praise. Here’s a recap in pictures.

Special G-Live pic. I stumbled upon this image recently. It’s Kevin! And who can forget his lines in the skit… one of them being, “I’m going to cook and clean my way into your heart!” Great job, Kevin!

G-Live 2009 was a Success!

Thanks for all those that came out to support Gracepoint Fellowship Church’s theatrical production… GLive ‘09: Undo. It was amazing that 1900+ people (not including our members) came to watch the production over the span of 3 showtimes. I hope that many people could relate to the characters and situations portrayed in the skits, cause them to think about their own lives, and ultimately have an enjoyable and memorable experience. I think I can speak for all the people that worked behind the scenes that we all had an awesome time putting it together, all for the sake of sharing the Gospel in an exciting and relevant way!

Please share your comments about the show by posting a reply! I will leave you with the intro video to G-Live, which was shown at the beginning of the event to kick-start the time. People are still taking about it! Gonna have to watch it several times to catch everything.

GTS (Fri) & V-Day of Compassion (Sat)

GTS

Be sure to sign up for a GTS (Gracepoint Training School) class that everybody will be taking on Friday nights. No, you don’t get units. :P They are just like our regular Bible studies, but they each are geared towards specific crowds so that we all can get the most out of God’s words. We will meet together as Kairos 4 for dinner, then head over to First Presbyterian Church together (near Unit 3), for a time of praise, then break off to our specific courses. Afterwards we’ll come back together for a time of fun. Last day to sign up is this Wednesday night, so please CLICK HERE to sign up!

Valentine’s Day of Compassion

Wanted to let you know about a tradition our church and campus fellowships had started a few years back.  Valentine’s Day has become a day that’s overhyped with romantic love notions, which sadly leaves a LOT of people feeling left behind.  What our church as a whole has decided to do was to bring love and compassion to the most forgotten people in our communities, to bring a day of joy into their lives of difficult circumstances.  This includes folks at nursing homes, at homeless and transition shelters, battered women shelters, Salvation Army centers, etc.

Kairos 2 and 4 are joining forces this Saturday to bring an afternoon of joy to the children (ages K-12) of families at a transition center in Oakland… These are homeless families that are given a place to stay for a month while they try to find themselves somewhere more stable.

Our program is going to be from 2-4pm, but we’ll need to do some prep work beforehand.  So we’re going to meet at Dana House (2440 Dana/Dwight) at 11:30… it’s BYOL (bring your own lunch), or just come having eaten.

Then, AFTERwards, we’ll be having a lot of fun and the Kairos staff will be providing a great dinner for y’all… more info on that to come!  But it’ll be a very full day of both meaningful work as well as lots of fun fellowship!

Please let me know, however, if you can make it to our visit to the homeless transition center, and also if you’d need a ride to Dana house.  Share your love by clicking here.

Winter Retreat Recap & DT Group Signups

This past weekend Kairos 4 had the awesome opportunity to attend Gracepoint’s church-wide winter retreat at Mt. Hermon, Santa Cruz. It was good to start off the year studying the word of God in depth through messages by Pastor Ed, listening to encouraging stories of how people overcame different personal fears in their lives with the help of God, and taking part in awesome worship time with special guest praise leader, Joe Horness. Even more awesome was that by the end of the retreat, 7 college students from Kairos made decisions to receive Christ into their lives! Cool!

// DT Group Signups //

So exciting news. We’re going to start up Devitional Time (DT) groups this semester. We will have the opportunity to do our devotions in small groups during different times and days during the week, depending on your own schedule. We are opening the DT groups up to all of Kairos. It will be a great way to grow with other college students, and hear insights from Scripture that you might not have thought of upon your own personal reading. God’s word is deep in meaning and this will be a wonderful way to help you study His word better, and on a more regular basis.

Key Verse for the Year 2009

Bored Yet?

Hi everyone!

Your break is almost half over now, huh?  Hope it’s been very restful!  I also hope it’s been at least somewhat productive!  But, if you’re finding boredom starting to settle in (or well-established), I wanted to offer some online resources to help keep your mind a little active…
Especially if you don’t have a church you’re going to, or, if you’re like my parents up in Seattle, had been snowed in and couldn’t get the car out of the driveway for a couple of weekends, you can still hear a pretty good message from your own home. :)
2) Check out our Resources page.
It has our daily devotion text, complete with commentaries and suggested reflection questions, which you can utilize to study Bible passages on your own each day.  There are also a bunch of other resources on this page that you can look into.
***Take note half-way down this page… the link to the “Dis-Gracepoint” blog.  If you want to laugh, well, you’ll laugh.  It’s pretty funny.
3) Read these daily Breakpoint editorials (no relation to Gracepoint Fellowship Church).
Chuck Colson is one of the main writers of these editorials which offer a Christian worldview to current events (something you’ll for sure never hear or read about in the supposedly “fair” media except with denigrating reference by liberal reporters, or reporters that are pressured by liberal peers and editors).  Who’s Chuck Colson?  Can read about him on wikipedia, but in short, he was involved in the Watergate scandal, as one of the top advisors to President Nixon, went to prison for it, became a Christian, founded Prison Fellowship International, wrote many books, all of which I’d highly recommend to you, including an autobiography that specifically talks about his Watergate involvement, imprisonment and conversion (book is called Born Again).
Anyway, that should be enough to tide you over for three weeks. :)
Enjoy!
Debbie

Mission Night, this Friday 9/26, 7pm

We will be having a special event on Friday called “Mission Night”, where we will learn, watch videos, and hear stories how God has worked in our lives from all the different summer mission trips that members and college students from Gracepoint Fellowship Church went on. Many of your fellow Kairos 4 staffers went on these trips over the summer like Taiwan, Cambodia, and Kyrgyzstan.

We will start off with our usual dinner at the YWCA this Friday @ 6pm.

Afterwards, we’ll walk together to First Presbyterian Church where we will join up with 2 other campus fellowships, Koinonia, and A2F for Mission Night. Hope to see you there! It’s going to be an eye-opening night for sure!

Kairos 2×4 Camping Trip Was a Blast!

Wow, what an awesome trip!  I’m so glad we got to go on this trip to Lakes Spaulding, Bowman, and Faucherie.  Oh, and also Island Lake.  Man, that’s a lot of lakes…almost like Minnesota!

We did stuff no other group at Gracepoint Fellowship Church as ever done before.  We drove miles and miles off-road into Lake Bowman and set up camp, walked out to the lake under a clear, full-moon night, and we rowed rafts out to a small island on Lake Faucherie for a tasty lunch.  We experienced great fellowship as we drove and shared stories, jokes, and riddles, walking out to Lake Bowman and singing praise songs under a full moon (no flashlights required!).  Man, it was such a great time!
My personal favorite was the off-roading, but I think most other people on the trip would beg to differ.  I understand where they’re coming from–riding in a bumpy car isn’t really as fun as *driving* a bumpy car.  Well, maybe next time someone else can have the pleasure of off-roading.  All I need to say, however, is that my two-wheel drive truck fared just as well as the other 4X4 trucks…4X4 is overrated….
Kairos 4 went up on Friday afternoon, but Kairos 2 went a day early and enjoyed the scenery at Island lake.  When we got up there, we immediately headed for Lake Spaulding and went kayaking.  What was supposed to be a relaxing time of enjoying the scenery as we cruised along the shores turned into a massive water fight, thanks to Andy’s initiative.  Thanks, Andy!

When we got enough water in our ears, we decided to head off and set up camp, in time for dinner.  ”Wonderful hands” prepared a magnificent dinner for all of us, and we ate to our hearts’ content.  After that we walked–no flashlights needed–under a clear, moonlight sky down to Lake Bowman, where we sang some songs and admired the heavens.  What a full day!
The next morning, we drove out to Lake Faucherie and took a hike to the waterfall.  Unfortunately, we were mistaken, and ended up at…well, I guess falling water IS technically a waterfall…

It’s okay, though–we found someone who gave us directions to the right one, and ended up at the real thing.

Whew!  What a rewarding hike!  Following our hike, we rowed out to a little island on Lake Faucherie, where we enjoyed our lunch surrounded by breathtaking views.  It just doesn’t get much better than that!

Man, this trip was quite fun!  I’m really looking forward to our next one!
